TROUBLED COMPANIES-TROUBLED COUNTRY.
Complex things are a concatenation of many simple things.
Braking down the complex things into simple ones; allow to pick and work on them, comfortable and efficiently, one at time.
Simple things can be handled by simple team members to bring solutions to problems and achieving very complex goals.
Most companies are in trouble today because they forgot yesterdays.
It is hard to remember a time when corporate America has been in such a threat like has been in the last 5 years. While Asian businesses are growing, America's are diminishing, because in Asia they learn the good practices and avoid the bad practices of the American business.
Not every thing they do is good, neither for them, nor for Americans, but they have learned to adjust and take care of quality, efficiency and customer service.
Americans have the advantage of Solid Democracy, technology, the best own talent and much brought from all over the world, and a huge market; but management has been contaminated by easy flow of money.
Never before had we heard of paychecks being so high and corruption so common in the corporate field as it has been in the government. It’s not the exclusive of corporate America, but the Americans higher standard of living may have helped to make it so easy to hit and hide.
Most difficult challenges Corporations may encounter during their analysis is admitting they have reached a plateau. It usually can be resolved with simple approach and willingness but need awareness and acceptance. There are simple words to say and simple things to solve in order to turn the situation around to where it was 10 years ago or better times, but management obsolescence, ego and wealthy culture stops the thinking and acting.
“GOING TO THE BASICS”.
The simplest phrase used but not often applied has been "Going to the Basics". Along with it we hear, “ We will design more competitive products, will reduce headcount, will cut cost, reduce installed capacity, cut bonuses, freeze salary increases and some benefits and so on.
Seldom we heard : “ We will make substantial changes to modernize the way we run business, how we hire people and how we will keep them motivated to build loyalty ”. HR contribution to the company cost reduction plan seams to be set to elaborate firing candidates list and adjust the system to apply cuts to the employee’s benefits. Very little effort is observed to help the universities with education projects in order to educate better managers .
Most people take the "Going to the Basics" as a responsibility of the corporations’ management, but it seams to be way far from the truth. All Americans from adolescence to the retired seniors ages have the responsibility of making their mind up to “Going to the Basics” if they truly love their country.
"Going to the Basics" is basic, basically necessary and basically easy to accomplish. It does not deprive from what has been honestly earned and can be done, and has not cost involved. It is easy and simple as follows:
SIMPLE WORDS:
......-Watch the Cents that Millions take care of themselves.
......-Do for others what you want others to do for you.
......-Do what you do well, the first time, as you want others to do well for you.
SIMPLE THINGS TO SOLVE:
......-Watch closely that expenditures and investments always add value to goals.
......-Expand the budget scope breaking it down to all levels.
......-Follow through.
......-Make sure there are policies in place that make people happy, loyal and motivated.
......-Make sure everyone knows:
............* what they’re doing
............* when they should do it
............* how they’re doing it
............* why needs to be done and
............* where to do what is expected do be done.
......-Do not make assumptions. Even if the candidates have extensive experience they need clear definition of objectives, attention and recognition.
......-Plan every thing, stick with the plan, adjust as needed, assign tasks, follow up, enforce accountability and recognition, and expressly discard plans that are not relevant any more.
CREATE THE ENVIRONMENT:
Whether you are a CEO of a company or not, you may think it is too hard to implement a turn around plan, because the complexity, the old culture and habits of the people and the actual economy crunch, play hard against all good intentions.
If communication is good within the organization, in critical times, people will be opened to ideas and proposal of solutions even though there is a resistance for changes. However, when the plan proposal is properly and honestly disclosed, a high percentage of workers will like to cooperate. Some won’t, because they believe the plan is not good enough. Others won’t, because they feel that it will hurt his or her personal interest. Before firing people, and taking desperate actions, some questions should have positive answers:
Communication among all levels of employees is good?
Is everybody well informed of the real situation?
Employees know what went wrong and what has to be fixed?
Human Resources has a plan in place to persuade those uncooperative workers, regardless of their connections, to join the rest of the group for the recuperation plan or leave the company before they start to make negative campaign among their peers.
The CEO only has to very well communicate the recuperating plan to his or her direct reports based on the above "Simple Words" and "Simple Things to solve". They, in turn have to follow the approach down line from their direct reports, and so forth. Step by step is how we use the ladder the best.
Making successful changes requires however knowledge, determination, consistence and persistence;
Knowledge; to plan and implement what is the best.
Determination; to follow what has been said in "Simple Things to Solve"
Consistence and Persistence; to stick to the plans. Follow through, prize good performers, and reprimanding low performers.
FINAL SIMPLE WORDS:
“MONKEY SEE, MONKEY DO”.
When the organization's lower level workers start to see coherent changes on the top, they will change their attitude towards the company's plans. Those who don't, will be forced to change or leave by means of criticism, indifference, for being ignored by their own work mates or be fired.
When the supervisor sees the managers being careful with their budget, and their concern with the way they do planning and their own job, they will also change too. When the supervisor changes approaches for good, the workers will notice immediately and will get motivated. This formula will generate fierce loyalty. Most frustrated workers will feel that their careers are back on track and that will create synergy to bring the company back on track too. Amazingly, Monkey See Monkey Do works at home too.
SOME COMMON THOUGHTS:
It is not with me!
It is not my fault!
I knew it will happen!
There is nothing I can do!
I have not decision power!
That’s management problem!
This government did nothing!
They don’t know what they’re doing!
……………………
……………..
EVERY BODY CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.
If you are an individual who does not agree with the way the company has been running, but you need your job and love your country, you can help; don’t think it’s not with you. Don't just blame or leave it to others. Do your part by following the Simple Words:
......Watch the Cents that Millions take care of themselves.
......Do for others what you want others to do for you.
......Do what you do well, the first time, as you want others to do well for you.
REFLECT ON YOUR ACHIEVEMENTS.
Build your self-confidence by taking inventory of your talents and professional accomplishments. Identify what is it you do better and you're most proud of and determine what made these experiences especially fulfilling. Once you've identified them, see if you can work with others to incorporate those things to their jobs or helping them with their lives.
VOLUNTEER:
Volunteer to take on a demanding task at work, even if it falls outside your job description. It will help to increase your knowledge, self-confidence and skills, and prepare your self for promotions or more pleasant jobs.
LIVE THE MOMENT:
-Live the moment when you are doing something.
-Do it well, from the start, don't postpone to fix later.
-Forget about the past when you are doing your work. Focusing in the past makes you build the future like the past. It is not good, even if the past looks better than the present, because the past does not belong to you any more.
-Plan the future, but do not focus on it, because it’s always and ever uncertain.
Doing well in the present moment will build the desired future pleasant moments that you would ever been able to dream of otherwise.
THE MAGIC WORD
When you get desperate when things do not happen the way you like, think that you are not alone. Maybe a lot of people out there, are not happy with the way you do things.
Those people who do not like the way you do things need, and have to accept the way you are. You have the right to be as you are, like every body else. Therefore, you should accept everybody else as they are. Do not pretend to change people’s way to be or events way to happen.
Acceptance is the magic word that keeps us away from a lot of stress, unnecessary preoccupations, problems and isolation.
Learn to accept others as they are and accept unpleasant success as they happen and you will see miracles to come to you.
CONCLUSION:
Every thing is possible if we create the environment first:
Good communication.
Going to the basics.
Practice acceptance.
Live the present moment
